Sleep Per Chance To Dream

Beauty sleep is not a myth…. those of us who fail to get enough sleep be that due to the treaded insomnia or burning the candle at both ends well ultimately our skin will pay the price. There is after all only so much concealer can do.

The science behind sleep states that there are two phases to your night’s sleep, non-REM & REM. Typically the first phase begins in the early part of the night and the second phase comes later and is the point where you will dream.

Its during the REM phase that the body will restore and regenerate itself. Also, at this stage our bodies produce Human Growth Hormone. HGH repairs tissue and keeps skin elastic, skin cells regenerate quicker at night also. If you don’t get sufficient sleep our bodies, then produce the stress hormone cortisol which not only can contribute to holding excess weight around the midriff area but also causes free radicals (cell attackers) which reduce the skins renewal and voila dark circles and under eyebags appear.

It is believed that 8 hrs sleep is the ideal for skin health in particular, but how can you achieve this pillow perfect time? Well, we have a few beauty focused suggestions:

The most important step to ensure a solid sleep is routine:

*Stay away from digital stressors of laptop, tv and phone ideally two hrs before bed.

*Read a book, do gentle yoga, meditate or journal to help you unwind.

*Herbal tea- before bed a warming cup of chamomile, lemon balm or passionflower will aid relaxation. Try Le Jardins Apoptogenic night-time tea.

*Aromatherapy- soothing scents diffused into the room will help sleep our favourites are lavender and rose.

*Thoroughly cleanse skin to remove the days make-up, sweat and pollution any night serums you apply after this are more likely to be absorbed.

* Wash skin and don’t apply anything warmer than lukewarm water, heavy makeup is best removed with an oil cleanser, we love keeping it pure with using argan oil neat onto the skin to remove stubborn dirt and grime whilst nourishing.

*After cleansing use anti-aging rosehip oil on the face and small amount of organic thistle oil around the eyes to prevent premature wrinkles. Let this be absorbed for approx. 20 min.

*stay on top of facial muscle health and prevent the dreaded sagging by using a jade or rose quartz roller to strengthen and tighten.

* Lock in moisture by applying your HA serum before bed for maximum effect.

*Sleep on a satin/silk pillow and feel like a princess/prince as it is less likely to crease the skin and also helps keep frizzy hair at bay.

Abide by the old Irish proverb “A good laugh and a long sleep are two of the best cures for anything”
